Former Lawrence County Sheriff and NFL Star Passes Away
A former Sheriff in Lawrence County has passed away. Ed Weisacosky served as the sheriff from ’04 to ’08 before retiring to the Sunshine State. He’s also served as a deputy at the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office until ’96 before transferring to the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office.
You might be surprised to know that before Weisacosky’s law enforcement career, he spent 8 seasons in the NFL as a linebacker, playing for the Miami Dolphins, New York Giants, and New England Patriots.
The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office shared the news of Weisacosky’s passing in a Facebook post Monday morning. He was 75.
“It is with great sadness that we must post that former Lawrence County Sheriff Ed Weisacosky has passed away. Ed served his community as Sheriff from 2004-2008. Ed was a great leader and person and he will be missed by all. Those of us who served with and under him will never forget his dedication to those who he served. Rest in Peace friend.”
