Rep. Dirk Deaton receives Distinguished Legislator Award
State Representative Dirk Deaton (R-Noel) has been named Distinguished Legislator for his legislative efforts to help Crowder College and further the growth and success of community colleges across the state.
The Missouri Community College Association (MCCA) recognized Rep. Deaton with the 2019 Distinguished Legislator Award on Thursday, November 7, at the Kansas City Marriott Downtown during its 55th Annual Convention. The award is given annually to legislators most accomplished in support of Missouri community colleges and their students.
Rep. Deaton was recognized for his efforts, particularly his work to secure new funding for Crowder College. During the budget process, and as a member of the House Budget Committee, Deaton worked to find an additional $300,000 in funding to expand their nursing program.
“I consider it a great honor to be recognized by the Missouri Community College Association for my efforts on behalf of community colleges,” Deaton, said. “I believe in the community college mission and know that they are the key to the future of higher education and job training.”
The MCCA brings together and represents the 12 community colleges in the state to advance common goals. Each year, the MCCA identifies and recognizes individuals who have made contributions to higher education and to the state of Missouri.
