Road work to lead to closings next week on 44th Street
Starting Monday, Nov. 18, the west leg of Richard Joseph Boulevard will be closed due to work on the 44th Street widening project. Access to businesses along this roadway will still be available on the east entrance of Richard Joseph Boulevard.
Work is expected to take approximately one week, as crews set a large drain pipe across the Boulevard. 44th Street will remain open during this phase.
The project will widen 44th Street, from Connecticut Avenue east to Range Line Road, and Connecticut Avenue from the bridge over Interstate 44, south to 44th Street.
The design is for a five-lane road, with a sidewalk and shared use path, as well as a roundabout at the intersection of 44th and Connecticut Avenue.
It is being funded through the 3/8 cent Capital Improvement Sales Tax approved by voters in 2014. D&E Plumbing Company is the contractor for the project.
