E-Cigarette Maker Sued By Southwest MO School District
An e-cigarette manufacturing giant is being nailed by another school district in Missouri. The Ava R-1 School District has joined the ever-growing list of schools suing Juul Labs.
The rural southwest Missouri school district filed an 80-page lawsuit Oct. 31 in federal court claiming the company marketed its products to teens and got a new generation of young people addicted to nicotine. The lawsuit also claims Juul lied about the amount of nicotine in its vaping products; giving the impression that e-cigarettes are a healthy alternative to smoking.
As of last week, there were 33 confirmed or probable vaping associated illnesses and one vaping-related death have been reported in Missouri. The state is also doing random compliance checks at Missouri retailers who sell vaping products.
