Sexual Abuse/Violence presentation October 24 at MSSU

“Applying Trauma Informed Investigations: Child Sexual Abuse and Sexual Violence” will be presented by Russell Strand on Thursday, October 24, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the North End Zone Facility on the campus of Missouri Southern State University.

Strand will explore the impact of trauma on sexual abuse investigations, and how victim interviews, evidence collection and court proceedings can be conducted with a trauma-informed approach.

The training seminar is free and is being sponsored by the Missouri Southern Department of Social Work and the Children’s Center of Southwest Missouri.

“We are so very pleased to partner with the Children’s Center for this event,” said Dr. Renee White, associate professor of social work at MSSU.

“We are also extremely fortunate to have Russell Strand and his level of expertise come to our area. We are encouraging all professionals who work in this realm to attend.”

Strand is a retired Federal Special Agent and retired Chief of the Behavioral Sciences Education & Training Division, United States Army Military Police School, with an excess of 40 year’s law enforcement, investigative and consultation experience. He is also an internationally recognized expert in the areas of domestic violence intervention, sexual assault and child abuse investigations, human trafficking, forensic interviews, response to trauma and culture change.

Again, the event is free. Those wishing to attend are asked to send RSVPs to Aryn Crawford at: acrawford@childrens-center.org.
