Crash in downtown Pittsburg results in injuries to motorcycle rider
A crash on South Broadway in Pittsburg has sent one man to the hospital and sent the driver of a Sport Utility Vehicle to jail.
Crawford County deputies gave chase to the SUV after it went around a traffic stop at a high rate of speed.
However, they ended the chase due to heavy traffic in Pittsburg.
The Kansas Highway Patrol says the SUV, driven by 23-year old Salma Marquez-Aguirre, was moving at high speed when it struck a motorcycle operated by 57-year old James C. Thomas of Weir.
The Patrol says Thomas was not wearing a safety helmet.
The driver then lost control and the crashed into the Edward Jones office near 516 S. Broadway.
Thomas was flown to the KU Medical Center with suspected serious injuries.
Marquez-Aguirre, who was not injured, was taken to the Crawford County Jail.
