Gov Parson Names October ‘Pork Month’

The Missouri Pork Association says the U.S. deal reached with China on Friday is huge for the state’s pork industry.

President Trump’s announcement came just hours after Missouri Governor Mike Parson named October Pork Month.

Don Nikodim is head of the the state’s pork producers.

“Very timely to celebrate pork month with a great announcement like that. We’ll take that any day.”

Nikodim thinks the deal the US made with Japan last week put the squeeze on China.

“Having this agreement here is pretty exciting. And when you consider the situation in China right now with the huge demand for pork, the U.S. is certainly in a great position to help meet that demand. So, we think this is just a tremendous opportunity.”

Nikodim says China has been buying more U.S. pork lately .

President Trump told reporters implementing this phase of the trade agreement should happen quickly, and some pending tariffs will not go into effect.
