Former Deputy Sentenced in Child Abuse Case
You think you’d be the safest with the police, but the 2-month-old daughter of a former Newton County deputy was not so lucky. 53-year-old Kenneth Rush has been sentenced to 7 years in prison after pleading guilty to child abuse after his daughter was rushed to the hospital in December 2017 with a brain bleed. It was later determined she had experienced severe abusive head trauma.
Rush was facing 15 years in prison, but pleaded down to a class D charge of child abuse. Judge Gayle Crane presided over the case.
Sheriff Jennings fired Rush as soon as he was notified he was under investigation.
