Escaped Cougar Captured

UPDATE: Folks are now safe from a cougar that broke loose from the Riverside Park and Ralph Mitchell Zoo this (Monday) morning in Independence. The big cat was captured safely and is now back in it’s enclosure.

Beware of a cougar on the loose in Independence, Kansas! The big cat escaped from the Riverside Park and Ralph Mitchell Zoo Monday morning. Police are urging residents to use extreme caution and avoid the area.

The Independence Kansas Police Department posted to Facebook:

“The cougar has escaped from Riverside Park and Ralph Mitchell Zoo. Park officials and local law enforcement are searching the area. Citizens should take extreme caution, and if you see the cougar do not approach and immediately call 911. At this time we encourage the public to avoid the area. Further updates will be posted on our website and Facebook pages.”
