Woman Leads Carterville Police On High Speed Chase

A woman from Pittsburg allegedly high on drugs believed to be driving a stolen car led police on a high speed chase down Highway 249 from Carterville to Pineville where she was clocked going more than 120 mph early Thursday morning.

Carterville Police attempted to pull over 27-year-old Nicole Perez-Lopez on the highway around 1 a.m.because she appeared to be under the influence. When the officer turned on his lights, the suspect took off. Newton County deputies and the Highway Patrol joined in the pursuit. It finally ended when troopers deployed spike strips in Anderson after Lopez turned around near Pineville and headed back north.

Lopez was booked into the McDonald County jail on DWI charges. She’s reportedly facing charges of tampering with a motor vehicle, speeding, and resisting arrest in Carterville. KZRG has reached out to Carterville Police to confirm.
