Joplin City Council approves new trail, several projects
The Joplin City Council approved several bills Monday night and talked several upcoming projects.
They approved a $725,827 bill for the construction of the St. John’s Trail Project. It will be paid for by funds from the Missouri Highway and Transportation Commission “TAP” and City of Joplin Parks and Stormwater Tax Funds. This trail will tie into the Mohaska Trail at 28th Street, then run along the east side of St. John’s Boulevard to 32nd. It will be 2,600 linear feet of 10′ wide multi-use concrete trail. Work will be done by October 18th.
Council approved a $49,600 bill for appraisal services for the Connecticut Avenue widening project from 32nd Street to I-44. Also, $92,800 was agreed upon for right of way negotiation services for the widening of 32nd Street between Schifferdecker and Central City Road.
A public hearing was held related to the operation of a Medical Marijuana Dispensary at 3925 South Range Line Road. Joe Burtrum Jr wants to rezone it from a single family residential district to a commercial district.
A new fire truck will be purchased for $385,028.
A $121,210 contract was approved for construction of improvements of the Turkey Creek Waste Water Treatment Admin./Lab Building Modifications Project. The roof will be demolished and replaces as well as HVAC and other maintenance.
A traffic calming policy was also discussed and approved on a first reading basis. Its goal is to ensure that each neighborhood with a proven traffic problem, has access to measures that will address the said problem. This bill has new regulations that will be implemented on residential streets and will provide steps to follow which allows city staff to give consistent service to each resident request.
