Murder charges filed in rural Newton County shooting

First-degree murder charges. That’s what 60-year-old Rickey Lamb of Joplin is facing after he allegedly shot and killed 32-year-old Sarah Tyminski in rural Newton County Monday. He also has been charged with first-degree assault and two counts of armed criminal action in the wounding of his son, 35-year-old Christoper Lamb. The shooting on 8571 Eloise Lane allegedly took place over a child custody dispute. He is being held on a $500,000 cash only bond.

A probable cause affidavit says that Rickey has custody of Christopher and Sarah Tyminski’s children. Rickey stated he has had custody for a year, Rickey stated Christopher told him the next time Christopher gets the kids, Rickey would not get them back. Rickey stated he went to Christopher’s house to scare him so he would not keep the children.

Rickey stated when he pulled into the driveway, Christopher knelt down behind a tree and fired a shotgun at him. Rickey Lamb stated he then grabbed his rifle and shot Christopher. Rickey stated Christopher dropped the shotgun, Sarah tried to pick the shot gun up and Rickey shot her. Rickey stated Christopher fired the shotgun again at him hitting him in the left shoulder. Rickey Lamb then drove home.

Teresa Brown, who lives with Christopher and Sarah, was inside the house when the crime occurred. Teresa stated she was in the house and heard Christopher on the phone arguing with his father about the kids. Teresa stated when Rickey pulled up to the house, Rickey started shooting. Teresa stated Christopher got his gun and shot at Rickey after Rickey had already shot Christopher and Sarah.

Sarah was found in the front yard with what appeared to be a single gunshot wound to the hand and the side of her abdomen. Sarah was pronounced dead at the scene. Christopher was found inside the house near the front door. He was transported to the hospital and is in critical condition. Rickey was seen at the hospital for a gunshot wound to the left shoulder. Rickey was released from the hospital and transported to the Newton County Jail.
