Pay going up for teachers in the Joplin R-VIII system

Pay is going up for teachers in the Joplin School District.

The Joplin R-VIII Board of Education unanimously voted for the increases at the group’s meeting last night (Tuesday, May 28).

“Current employees who are with us can see an increase of anywhere from 14 hundred dollars to two thousand for the next school year, said R-8 Director of Educational Support and Human Resources, Sarah Mwangi.

The School Board approved the new figures at their meeting last night.

Mwangi says a new teacher will make 37 thousand, 754 dollars a year.

The maximum a teacher can make (with superior educational accomplishments at the top of the step scale) is $60,561 a year.
