Joplin names Teacher, Support Staff member of the Year
Joplin’s Teacher of the Year was formally recognized by the Joplin School Board at its meeting last night (Tuesday, May 28).
He’s Loren Curtis, Franklin Technical Center construction teacher.
Curtis, who lives in Granby, has worked for the R-VIII school system for the last nine years. He learned his construction skills at Tarkio College and in the United States Army.
“It’s awesome,” he said. “Unreal. “I did not suspect this would happen. It’s all a surprise.”
Kay Johnson, secretary at Kelsey-Norman, was named Support Staff member of the year.
She has worked for the Joplin School District for 25 years, starting as a library aide before she became a secretary at Kelsey Norman.
“I’m retiring,” she says with a smile.
She says she plans to visit her sister and spent more time with her husband, Michael.
