Groundbreaking held for handicapped-accessible playground in Carl Junction
Call it the “Power of Play.”
Nearly everyone remembers recess from primary school – playing on swings, slides, and other equipment.
In Carl Junction, the joy of research is going to be extended to more students as a result of a project to expand access to virtually every student.
Groundbreaking was held yesterday for a new handicapped-accessible playground near the Carl Junction Primary 2-3 playground
The effort had its genesis two years ago when Carl Junction teachers, staff and community members recognized the value of having playgrounds available for all children, regardless of physical capabilities.
Over 70 percent of the nearly $516,000 needed for the project has been funded by grants and private donations. Power of Play additionally had the benefit of a State Farm Neighborhood Assistance grant worth received a $25,000.
The new playground should be ready by the time school resumes in August.
