MO Needs To Get Untested Rape Kits Counted Or Lose Funding
Time is running out for Missouri to get thousands of untested rape kits counted that are sitting on shelves in hospitals and law enforcement agencies.
There’s about four more months to figure that out, or the state will not get about $2 million dollars in federal funding to hire staff to test the kits.
Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt says they’re working on it.
“I mean, it’s a big state. You have a 114 counties, and the City of St. Louis, so the most important thing to figure out early on here is the enormity and the gravity of the issue, and then tackle it head-on.”
It’s believed there’s a backlog of about 5,400 untested rape kits.
