Cinco de Mayo at Downstream features fresh food items
“Cinco De Mayo” is coming up this Sunday.
Many people will be going out to eat on that day. Chef John Bolton of Downstream Casino in northeast Oklahoma just outside of Joplin says if you’re really hungry, a “River Pass” gives you the ability to eat all day long for one fee.
Otherwise, he says Downstream will be serving meals in its restaurants.
Bolton says many people may not realize that most of the food on the salad bar at Downstream is grown just a few hundred feet away.
“You know it’s a chef’s dream to be able to walk out the door, go over to the greenhouses and say ‘Hey, that’s ready. How can I incorporate that into one of the menu items?'” Chef Bolton says.
He says in addition to the items from the greenhouses, food comes from the Quapaw processing plant a few miles down the road.
Cinco de Mayo honors the Mexican army’s victory over the French in 1862.
