Hailey’s Law To Be Presented To Senate
How long do you think it’s been since the Amber Alert oversight committee last met? It’s been 3 and a half years. You read that correctly, it was October 2015, and some lawmakers say that’s absolutely inexcusable. That’s why Representative Curtis Trent of Springfield will present his bill – Hailey’s Law – to a Senate committee Thursday that would require the group to meet at least annually.
“The goal there is to make sure that the oversight committee is functioning as intended, that it’s regularly reviewing the Amber Alert System to try to detect any flaws or problems with the system.”
Under current law, the Amber Alert committee is required to meet regularly, but regularly is not defined.
