Kids get a chance to play with Miracle League
The Miracle League of Joplin played its first softball games of the 2019 season Saturday morning. Games will be played each Saturday through June 8 at Will Norton Miracle Field at the Joplin Athletic Complex.
Any child with disabilities, from age 5 to 20 is eligible to play Miracle League baseball.
What’s the goal of the effort?
“Its an opportunity for them to get out and play and just have fun,” says Cameo Harrington, of the Miracle League Board.
“A lot of them have grown up having siblings play but this is the first time many of them have been able to participate,” she adds.
She says every player bats once each inning, all players are safe on the bases and every player scores a run.
Buddies, clad in yellow t-shirts are provided to help the players get around the bases and give them whatever other assistance they need.
