More Road Construction Coming to 32nd Street
Joplin drivers beware that more road construction is headed your way in just a couple of months on one of the city’s busiest streets. On June 3rd, MoDOT crews will begin resurfacing 32nd Street between Main and 249. They’ll also be making improvements to three intersections. Those projects include new turn lanes, ADA compliant side walks and signals at Main, Indiana, and Connecticut along 32nd Street. When the intersection improvements are completed, crews will remove the current driving surface on 32nd Street and replace it with new asphalt between Main Street and Route 249.The $3.9 million project is scheduled to be complete in July 2020.
An overview of work to be done at each intersection:
Main Street (Missouri Route 43) – New northbound to eastbound right turn lane; new Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant sidewalk and crosswalk connecting to existing sidewalk on southeast corner.
Indiana Avenue – New curbs; new ADA-compliant sidewalks and crosswalks connecting to existing sidewalks, new traffic signals.
Connecticut Avenue – New northbound- and eastbound right turn lanes; new ADA-compliant sidewalks and crosswalks connecting to existing sidewalks, new traffic signals.
The intersection improvements are a 50/50 cost-share with the City of Joplin.
When the intersection improvements are completed, crews will remove the current driving surface on 32nd Street and replace it with a new asphalt between Main Street and Route 249.
Contractor crews will work nighttime hours between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m., Sunday through Friday, beginning at Main Street and working east.
At least one lane in each direction will be open to traffic where crews are working. All lanes on 32nd Street will be open to traffic during daytime hours.
