Officials Investigating Possible Tornado

There was a line of severe thunderstorms that rolled through northeast Oklahoma and southeast Kansas into southwest Missouri just before midnight (4/18). Damage was reported from Joplin to northern Jasper County and Barton County. Reports have been rolling in of downed trees, large hail, and damage to a barn and a machine shed near Jasper. Meteorologist Mark Birchfield with the National Weather Service tells News Talk KZRG it’s possible a tornado touched down.

“In that damage area is an area we’re out surveying this morning trying to determine where that tornado touched down, if it did occur, and try to pick apart the details of that storm.”

Wind speeds were clocked at 67 mph. Newstalk KZRG will keep you updated on the damage.
