Rape victims have option to send assault kit anonymously

Rape victims in Missouri now have a new option when it comes to collecting evidence in their case. As of this year, victims can remain anonymous.

When someone arrives at the hospital saying they’ve been raped, nurses in the ER will do a sexual assault exam. It’s then up to the victim to decide what to do with the rape kit, meaning they could report to the police, or keep it on file at the hospital to be tested later.

Now, victims have the option to send in the evidence and have it tested right away while keeping their name anonymous and deciding later to press charges.
