Neosho slates public open house on 2017 flooding recovery
The City of Neosho invites members of the community to attend a Public Open House on Monday, April 15 from 4 – 6 p.m., to discuss the 2017 Flooding Disaster and suggestions for flood recovery.
The City plans to apply for CDBG (Community Development Block Grant) funds, available through the Missouri Department of Economic Development (DED) federal Disaster Declaration 4317 (DR4317), addressing the April 2017 floods. DR4317 provides $58.5M to be used among five communities in southern Missouri for the purpose of recovery, specifically in the area of housing.
Many homes were significantly damaged during the 2017 flood event. Some are currently inhabitable and/or unoccupied. Others have undergone repairs, but remain in the area where floodwaters rose, and are likely to rise again.
City leaders are interested in exploring options to enhance the availability of safe and affordable housing in the community, away from flood-prone areas.
Funds may be used to rehabilitate or raise structures out of the high-water line, or remove the structures altogether, and work in cooperation with other State agencies to build housing units in less vulnerable locations.
Prior to completing the final application for funds, Neosho invites residents and property owners,as well as other civic leaders, to attend this Open House, and share ideas on the most appropriate projects to be funded with this disaster recovery funding.
The Open House is scheduled for:
Monday, April 15, 2019
4 – 6 pm
at The Lampo Building
500 Spring St., Neosho, Mo.
