Divers search for any clues leading to Sarah Burton

Authorities searched a pond Friday afternoon that’s possibly connected to the disappearance of Sarah Burton, who’s been missing since July. The Missouri State Highway Patrol Dive Team had multiple divers in the pond at 1174 Crane Drive, just south of city limits. There was no evidence found at the scene Friday afternoon but Newton County Sheriff Chris Jennings says they will remain diligent in locating Sarah Burton.

A simple narcotics search warrant has turned into something possibly much bigger. The Newton County Sheriff’s Department and Joplin Police Department executed that warrant Tuesday afternoon at 1174 Crane Drive, just south of 32nd Street, outside of city limits.

“The investigation turned into an investigation into the disappearance of Sarah Burton,” says Joplin Police Captain Trevor Duncan. “Newton County Sheriff’s Department and FBI are leading the investigation today. We’re in contact with them as it pertains to our missing persons case with Sarah Burton but they are the initial agency at this point.”

Burton has been missing since July when she was last seen in Joplin. This possible crime scene is one of the first leads authorities have had in months.
