City Council approves Mohaska Trail construction
The Joplin City Council has approved a contract to begin construction of the Mohaska Trail. It will be 10,000 linear feet of ten-foot wide multi-use trail made of asphalt, concrete and permeable pavement. It is a part of the “Trails Master Plan”
The trail will begin at Cunningham Park then go down 26th and down St. Johns Boulevard to 28th Street then on Jackson to Mohaska Park. It will then trail back towards 26th Street to Main Street.
The $1,067,416 million project with D&E Plumbing and Heating is scheduled to be done by August 16th, with final seeding sodding and plantings done by the end of September.
Council also approved a contract for $2.1 million for construction of storm-water improvements in the area of 7th and Illinois. This money is funded through the Parks and Storm Water Sales Tax. The project with Branco Enterprises will aim to lower the water surface elevation during heavy rains so flooding of Illinois Avenue is less likely.
The work is expected to be done sometime next year as the construction will cause detours to be put in place on 7th Street and on Illinois Avenue when the work begins.
Council also approved the $405,722 NID IV Sidewalk 2018 Project. It includes improvements to sidewalk, streets curb & gutter, stormwater and sanitary sewer systems. This improvement project with Branco focuses on improving sidewalks along School Avenue, McKee Avenue, 2nd Street and 3rd Street.
