The City of Joplin says its MAPS (Metro Area Publictransit Service) is expanding into Oronogo. Read the full press release below:
Residents in this community can now schedule rides to Joplin and surrounding area for their errands, doctor’s appointments and other necessary trips. MAPS pickups will begin on Monday, April 8.
Since its inception in 1998, Joplin’s public transportation transported residents to and from their necessary destinations through MAPS. Today, the MAPS system provides curb-to-curb bus service on a pre-scheduled basis to residents of the greater Joplin metropolitan area. Residents schedule rides to pick them up from and take them to any destination within the MAPS operating boundaries. MAPS service is available in Joplin, Carl Junction, Carterville, Webb City, Duenweg, and Oronogo.
In addition, the Sunshine Lamp Trolley provides three routes within Joplin. Riders are able to get on and off at designated bus stops along the routes. They also have the option of scheduling a “deviated” pick-up or drop-off at a location within ¾-mile from the trolley route. Deviated stops can be scheduled with at least a one-hour advanced notice.
On average, 11,500 rides are given each month through the Trolleys and MAPS vans.
