Route D Bridge To Close, WC Police Offer Alternate Routes
Construction on the Route D bridge over Center Creek just north of Webb City will begin in just a week and a half on Monday, April 1st and it’s sure to cause some problems for those trying to get to school in the morning.
Webb City Police is suggesting a few detours. If you’re traveling from the Oronogo area, you should take Hawthorne Road before school to help eliminate the already congested intersection of Madison Street (County Road 230) & Stadium Drive.
For those headed to the Junior High, Kindergarten Center & Webster Primary, you should take Hawthorne Road to Main Street.
And if you’re traveling to Joplin, they suggest taking Hawthorne to East Road which will take you to the roundabout on the east edge of Webb City.
For those headed to the High School, continue south on Madison Street from Hawthorne Road.
The new bridge will be 12 feet higher, 18 feet wider with no truss. It’ll replace the severely deteriorated 84 year old bridge that nearly 6,000 vehicles cross per day for a total of $3 million.
MODOT officials say construction should be complete in 6 to 9 months.
