Kansas Judge Removes Self From Consideration For Court Of Appeals Following Political Tweets
In light of the information that has surfaced regarding Judge Jeffry Jack’s social media presence, Governor Laura Kelly is withdrawing his name from consideration for the Kansas Court of Appeals vacancy. Jack also submitted a letter removing his name from consideration.
Judge Jeffry Jack tweeted criticisms of the President and expressed his support for gun control and abortion rights.
Kelly said she was “surprised and disappointed that a sitting judge would engage in this type of rhetoric.” Adding that It’s “unacceptable for a sitting judge, who must be seen as unbiased and impartial, to post personal political views on social media.”
Kelly asked the Governor’s Nominating Committee two re-review the two remaining finalists, Sarah Warner and Marcia Wood, as well as send her additional names for consideration for the Kansas Court of Appeals vacancy. Once that is complete, Kelly will submit a new nominee to the Kansas Senate for review and confirmation.
