Carthage Police Department commends Butler, Wicks
Quick thinking by two Carthage Police Officers has earned them their department’s Life Savings Award.
Back on January 8, Sergeant Justin Butler and Officer Marcus Wicks found a victim of an accidental gunshot wound experiencing heavy blood loss in the 800 block of Olive Street in Carthage.
That’s according to Carthage Police Chief Greg Dagnan.
“They were first ones to arrive,”Dagnan says. “They placed tourniquet on victim. The hospital actually called us and said, ‘Hey just tell your guys said you did a good job of putting a tourniquet on that guy because he’s lost a lot of blood.'”
“We do end up in situations [such as these and] when EMS when are there they do a good job and we don’t worry about it but oftentimes we are there before they are,” Dagnan says.
The victim did survive. Dagnan says all police officers have to be ready to respond to any kind of emergency.
