Joplin Empire Market debuts new payment options

Joplin’s Empire Market at 931 E. 4th is featuring some great new payment options.

Ivy Hagedorn, Market Coordinator, says anyone with a SNAP card can have his or her card swiped for tokens at the market.

The tokens can be used for take-away food items.  She says the Market is also featuring Double Up Food Bucks.

“If someone comes in and gets money taken off their SNAP card for use here, we will basically double their money up to 25 dollars per person, per market day,” Hagedorn says.

She says those can be used to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as just about all edible food products, so long as they are not hot or meant to be consumed on the premises.

Hagedorn says anyone who comes to the market can use debit cards to receive market tokens that can be use the same as cash with market vendors.

The red-brick Joplin Empire Market, located nine blocks east of Main Street on 4th Street, is open every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
