11 People Vying for City Council Seat
The City of Joplin is one step closer to filling the open seat on the City Council. The vacancy is the result of long time Councilman Jim West who resigned through a letter from his attorney on February 15.
The council took 11 applications and will now give each applicant a chance to give a presentation at the city council meeting on March 11th and they plan to make their final decision at their regular meeting on March 18th.
The eleven hopeful appointees are:
Mike Seibert, Former Mayor
Keenan Cortez, Long-serving city volunteer
Charles Copple, Retired firefighter
Tom Rogers, of 12OneGroup
Troy Kinast, owner of Rangeline Antique Mall
Leonard Miller, of the Joplin School District
Matthew Robertson, a Neosho School District teacher
Sarah Hinkle, an employee of Macy’s
William Goodwin, a casino security director
Achala Tiwari-Pandey, a professor at Missouri Southern State University
Rocky Bigger, a lift truck operator for Americold.
