Joplin Police Officer Saves Family Of 7 From House Fire
An early Friday morning fire in Joplin has left a family of seven homeless, but uninjured thanks to the heroic acts of a Joplin Police Officer.
Around 1 o’clock, Officer Jeff Flener saw smoke coming from the rear of a home in the 100 block of South McCoy. The officer was able to wake the family and help them escape the blaze before the Joplin Fire Department arrived.
The Fire Department tells news talk KZRG that the fire moved quickly and they had to battle the blaze for over an hour before getting it under control.
The family of 7, 3 adults and 4 children, were assisted by The Red Cross. They have only been in the home for a little over a year. The Joplin Habitat for Humanity along with the family and volunteers finished construction in September of 2017.
The cause of the fire was ruled accidental.
