On February 14, 2019 at about 1:01 PM, a detective with the Joplin Police Department
was near A/McCoy when he observed a blue Chevy Aveo traveling with no license plates,
committing traffic violations. The detective attempted to stop the vehicle with concern that the
driver was impaired. The driver fled in the vehicle instead of pulling over. A pursuit ensued that
involved several detectives and officers with the Joplin Police Department and other agencies.
The pursuit lasted about 21 minutes and went from the northwest part of town, north,
east through town to the Prosperity area, into Duenweg, west through Duquesne, and back into
Joplin. At 3rd and Rangeline the vehicle turned into the cemetery to avoid traffic and police. In
the cemetery a female exited the vehicle and was arrested. The driver drove through the
cemetery to 4th Street and was pursued again through town.
In the area of Hill and Garden, the driver ran from the vehicle down an alley and was
arrested by officers without incident. The driver, Christopher J Crane, 28, Joplin, is being held at
the Joplin City Jail. Charges are being submitted to the Jasper County Prosecutor’s Office for
Driving While Intoxicated, Felony Resisting Arrest by Fleeing, Driving While Suspended and
failure to register a motor vehicle. The passenger, Katie S. Knotts, 35, Joplin, is in the Joplin
City Jail for possession of drug paraphernalia.
