Update: Names Released Following Call Of Shots Fired In Baxter Springs

UPDATE: A Cherokee County man is in custody after someone called police after hearing gun shots in the area Wednesday night. Just before 8 o’clock, Baxter Springs Police and Cherokee County deputies arrived at a home in the 400 block of Park and found Eric Ashley with a head injury, but not a gun shot wound. Charles Applegate was taken into custody at the scene. A second suspect is still being sought. Sheriff David Groves says this was not a random attack.

Law enforcement continue to work a shooting in Baxter Springs tonight.

Sheriff David Groves tells us “Officers dispatched to the 400 block of Park in Baxter Springs for a shooting. The victim was transported to a Joplin hospital for injuries sustained during the incident. One suspect has been taken into custody. Law enforcement is looking for an additional person of interest. Officers remain on scene at this time as they process it.”

Groves adds that the shooting was not random.
