Arkansas man arrested in Jane hotel robbery

A Fort Smith, Arkansas man faces burglary charges after a robbery at a hotel in McDonald County. On January 31st, around 03:30am, McDonald County Deputies responded to a reported Armed Robbery at the Boonslick Lodge located in rural Jane. Read the full press release below:

Upon arrival, deputies made contact with the hotel employee who advised the suspect had already
fled the scene on foot. According to witness statements, the suspect broke into the hotel cash drawer,
removed all the currency and fled on foot while the clerk was away from the front desk. Witness added
that the suspect then came back into the lobby a few minutes later and gave her a note stating he had a
gun and asked for the keys to her car. After a brief altercation, the suspect again fled the scene on foot.

Once the crime scene was secured, MCSO deputies began a search of the area where they later
located a white male matching the suspect description at Wal-Mart. The suspect who did not have and
identification and gave deputies false information was then transported to the McDonald County
Detention Center where he was later identified as Samuel Eugene Young of Fort Smith AR thru finger
print scanning.

Young later confessed to MCSO Detectives to the robbery as well another burglary at the same hotel
two weeks prior to this incident. Young is currently being held at the McDonald County Detention
Center on a Parole Violation warrant from the state of Arkansas as well as a new charge of Burglary in
the 1st Degree. Further charges are pending. There were no injuries reported during the course of this
incident.
