Joplin City Council approves numerous key items
The Joplin City Council had a packed agenda for their meeting on Monday night, approving several key items.
- The city of Joplin has launched a new customer service app for improved citizen engagement. With the free “SeeClickFix” mobile app, residents can quickly report local issues to City staff along with pictures, videos, specific descriptions, locations, and more. The app platform provides City officials with a centralized management system to address issues from creation to resolution while engaging citizens throughout the process. - Council approved a TIF-Tax Increment Financing-Funding agreement for an area just southeast of 32nd and Range Line for proposed development by a central Missouri developer that could bring a shopping center to the area.
- Pineapple Bliss is well on its way to finding a new permanent location. The popular soft-serve food truck has been located at 2128 S Main St in Joplin but is now asking the city council for a site plan review for a storefront on the northwest corner of 20th and Illinois. Rezoning of the area was approved as well. The 1,134 square foot building proposal would be drive-thru only but it would include 11 parking lots.
- A $215,500 extension project to 15th Street just east of Range Line was approved.
- On a first reading, fee changes were approved for multiple Joplin city pools after the city says in 2017 the pools operated at a loss of $245,000. Ewert-Children from $2.50 to $3.00 and Adults from $3.50 to $4.00. Cunningham-Children from $3.00 to $4.00 and Adults from $4.00 to $5.00. Schifferdecker-Children from $4.00 to $5.00 and Adults from $5.00 to $6.00. The effective date of the fee change will be April 1st.
- Council also approved a speed limit change of 35mph to 25mph on Fourth Street from Pennsylvania Avenue to Murphy Boulevard
- A public hearing was held to vacate an alley and an easement both running north/south north of 26th Street between Pearl Avenue and Wall Avenue. This is for development purposes of a Gringos restaurant that will go in that location.
