Missouri Governor Takes Issue With Amendment One
Governor Parson has a problem with an amendment passed by Missouri voters last November. He doesn’t like portions of “Clean Missouri”, specifically the part that says the state demographer will draw state legislative maps.
“We all know that the bottom line [of Amendment One] was the redistricting portion of it that we are trying to change. Do I have concerns about it? Yes, I do.”
Amendment One backers say a citizen commission would review the legislative maps drawn by the state demographer. Opponents say Amendment One “would mandate extensive gerrymandering” in an effort to balance each district with an equal number of Democratic and Republican voters.
