Ribbon cutting held for Nixon Hall at MSSU
Local officials and students gathered for the ribbon cutting of a newly opened building on the campus of Missouri Southern State University. Nixon Hall is named after former Missouri Governor Jay Nixon, who tells Newstalk KZRG just how important mathematics are in today’s world. “These days so many people can just turn to their smartphone and it does the problem for ya, but if you don’t understand how numbers, math, and trends work, it doesn’t do you any good if the phone is giving you the answer. It’s not about getting the answer it’s about understanding the process. This building and the people that teach here will be able to give generations of student’s an opportunity to have that knowledge.”
The $8.1 million needed for construction of the new 20,000-square foot space was secured by Nixon and Senator Ron Richard in Nixon’s time as governor. It was completed just in time for the Spring 2019 semester.
Nixon Hall features classrooms, faculty offices, a computer lab and a sky-walk that connects it to the south side of Reynolds Hall and also features several mathematically designed elements within the building.
