Dozen veterans deaths in Fayetteville possibly linked to misdiagnoses
As many as a dozen veterans may have died due to possible misdiagnoses by a now-dismissed pathologist in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Doctor Robert Levy was fired from the Veterans Health Care System of the Ozarks in April after he was accused of being impaired on the job, although he denies those allegations.
Since June, the VA has reviewed nearly 34,000 cases linked to Levy. Outside pathologists found more than 3,000 errors or missed diagnoses, dating back to 2005.
That’s a nearly 9% error rate, compared to the normal nationwide rate of 0.7%.
