MSHP reports eight fatalities over New Year’s counting period
Eight people were killed in traffic crashes during the 2019 New Year’s holiday weekend in Missouri. Sgt. John Lueckenhoff tells Newstalk KZRG that the Missouri State Highway Patrol recorded 899 fatalities in 2018. “Of those 899, 60% were not wearing their seat belt or were unrestrained. That’s the type of numbers that we need to work on. We need to do a better job on getting our motorists to ensure they are always buckled up.”
Lueckenhoff adds that the MSHP arrested 127 people for DWI between 6 p.m., Friday night and midnight Tuesday night.
