Details Emerge After Gruesome Murder in St. Louis
More details are being reviled concerning the gruesome murder of a 4 in St Louis.
Relatives say the suburban St. Louis woman began dating 46-year-old Richard Darren Emery, of St. Charles after her husband died of cancer.
Kate Kasten nursed her late husband, Kory Kasten, during his six-year battle with cancer. He died in April 2017.
Kate Kasten’s father, Frederick Moeckel, says what happened is “beyond belief.” He says his grandchildren “loved” Emery. His ex-wife, Jane Moeckel, had been staying with her daughter because she was recovering from hip surgery.
Jane Moeckel called 911 about 11:55 p.m., having attempted to protect her grandchildren by locking them in one of the bedrooms. Dispatchers could hear gunshots as they kept her on the line and sent officers to the Whetstone address.
By the time police arrived shortly before midnight, Moeckel and the children were all dead. Kate Kasten was fatally wounded. She died later at a hospital.
Emery is facing 15 charges, including first-degree murder in the deaths of 39-year-old Kate Kasten, 8-year-old Zoe Kasten, 10-year-old Jonathan Kasten and 61-year-old Jane Moeckel. Emery was captured Saturday after exchanging gunfire with officers.
