Joplin City Council Busy Monday Night

The Joplin City Council has approved a plan for an industrial development project of acquiring and installing manufacturing equipment and allowing the city to issue its taxable industrial revenue bonds in the amount of $67,215,000. This agreement is with the Schaeffler Group at 3900 Range Line Road, who manufactures bearings for automotive and industrial applications. The project would consist of the issuance of Chapter 100 bonds. 60 new jobs are expected to be added in connection with the project. Council also advanced a bill to second and third reading giving Connect2Culture more time to achieve their funding goal of $14 million to build an art and entertainment center on the current parking lot of Memorial Hall. The amendment now gives Connect2Culture until June 1, 2019. Their original target date was November 30, 2018.

A construction project for street resurfacing of Wall Avenue from F Street to 15th Street, 10th Street from Main to Maiden Lane, Junge Boulevard from Main to Maiden Lane, and Central City Road near the Roundabout costing $990,247 was approved.

Another construction project for street microsurfacing for numerous downtown streets west of Main Street for $693,796 was approved.

A project for the resurfacing 1/3 of the city’s parking lots and trails for $49,462 was approved.
