Former Joplin City Manager Mark Rohr Snags New Job
Former Joplin Mayor Mark Rohr will soon be assuming the post of city manager for a city in the northeastern part of the Lone-Star State.
City commissioners in Marshall, Texas hired the 58-year-old Rohr as the city’s new city manager late last week.
Officials in Marshall said they were looking for a “visionary” for the position in their community.
Rohr was city manager in Joplin during the time of the 2011 Joplin tornado. He worked for the city for nine years until leaving in 2014.
After that he worked in a similar position in League City, Texas. He was terminated from that position in December 2016.
The Marshall city commissioners made the decision to hire Rohr on a 5-1 vote. Commissioner Gail Beil made the motion to hire Rohr.
Rohr made headlines after being involved in a car accident in Joplin in April 2018. The accident took the life of motorcycle rider Donald Kidwell, III of Galena, Ks. Rohr, who was driving an S.U.V., was not injured in the accident.
The Joplin Police Department investigated the accident, ruling that there was “no evidence of impairment” on the part of Rohr.
Rohr will wait for 30 days before beginning his new job. His pay under his new contract with the city of Marshall will be $170,000 a year.
