Suspected Drug Sales Near an Elementary School Leads to Arrests
A search warrant was executed Tuesday evening as part of a month-long investigation by the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office into suspected drug activity near a Baxter Springs school.
Just before 7:00 p.m., Sheriff’s Investigators and the Baxter Springs Police Department served the warrant at 1331 Lincoln Avenue.
“During the course of the investigation, and subsequent search of the home, suspected cocaine, marijuana, drug paraphernalia and evidence of drug distribution was seized,” according to Cherokee County Sheriff David Groves.
Three suspects were taken into custody and transported to the Cherokee County Jail.
18-years old Jacob Eiland and 20-year-old Hannah Spradlin, both of the home were arrested at the scene. They each face allegations of Possessing Marijuana with Intent to Distribute within 1,000 feet of a school, Possession of Cocaine, Possession of Marijuana, Felony and Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. They are each being held on $33,000 bond. 18 years old, Jordan Lee was also arrested on allegations of possessing marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Lee posted $3,000 bond. Lee, who is also from Baxter Springs is currently free awaiting trail after posting a $3000.00 bond.
Sheriff Groves says drug distribution, regardless of the drug, is an inherently dangerous crime and this case is especially concerning due to the close proximity to one of Baxter’s elementary schools, the presence of cocaine and the young ages of the suspects involved
He advises parents to talk about the dangers of drug use and associating with those involved in illegal activities.
