65 Faculity Members Taking Early Retirement at KU
Authorities say 65 faculty members at the University of Kansas are expected to take an early retirement buy-out.
The school announced the program in August to help with a $20 million budget-cutting initiative for the Lawrence campus. Tenured and tenure-track faculty had until last week to decide whether to participate. And, to be eligible, participants in the new program had to be at least 62 years of age.
Most of the retirements are coming from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, with 28, followed by the School of Engineering, with 10 and the average salary of the departing faculty members is approximately $100,000.00
The new vacated positions may be eliminated, held open for a year or two or filled by new tenure-track junior faculty or instructors.
