Joplin Fire Department Warns Residents of Scam

The Joplin Fire Department is warning citizens to be wary of a scam that claims to be raising funds for the department.

“We have been notified by a citizen that someone is calling claiming to be raising funds for the Joplin Fire Department and asking “how much can we put you down for”. The Joplin Fire Department, the Joplin Professional Firefighters L59, and the Joplin Area Firefighters Christmas for Kids do not raise funds for any projects via telephone solicitations. Any fundraising efforts will be through in person contact or events that are advertised as fund raising efforts with specific details of the project.

We have notified the Joplin Police Department of this issue as well.”
