Governor Parson Talking in Support of Proposition D.

Yes on proposition D? That’s the question Missouri voters will face at the ballot box next month. Proposition D proposes a slight gas tax increase to fund road and bridge repairs. Governor Mike Parson was at Missouri Southern State University Wednesday addressing some key questions, including how the money raised from the new tax will be spent. Governor Parson Spoke to News Talk KZRG and said “I think the way this is written is pretty direct to the constitution, so you’re attached to that. So it’s not like the legislator process can go in and defer any of the money to other projects. This has to be spent on our highways and our bridges and our airports and our ports. I mean it has to go into our ground for infrastructure you can’t divert the money for anything else…” The Governor also told News Talk KZRG that because the tax hasn’t been raised in 22 years, but the costs of building supplies and labor has gone up every year, we couldn’t put it off any longer.

If passed the proposition would raise the price per gallon of gasoline by two and a half cents annually over a four year period to a total of ten cents per gallon after 4 years.
