Hurricane Florence is barreling down on the Carolina cost as the most massive hurricane in decades and The American Red Cross is already in action. Executive director for The American Red Cross of Southern Missouri Stacy Burks spoke to News Talk KGRG with details.
“Locally we have 7 volunteers out of southwest Missouri and 7 volunteers out of northwest Arkansas who have deployed as part of a team of over 55 volunteers from across all of Missouri and Arkansas. We have also sent 14 of our emergency response vehicles “
Those vehicle and volunteers will be on site and near the anticipated impact area today. They will be setting up temporary housing for evacuees and supply food, water and shelter. While others will be standing by in the area ready to help those most affected.
Stacy also tells News Talk KZRG the biggest need in any emergency is monetary donations.
“…the best way folks can help is to donate cash. They can donate at 1-800-red cross, through www.redcross.org, or if you text the word redcross to 90999 that’s a $10 donation.”
Florence is expected to make landfall as a category 3 or even a category 4 hurricane in the next 24 hours
