A man from Pittsburg was taken to the hospital after being tased and knocked unconscious after he allegedly resisted arrest in Joplin Monday afternoon. Around 1:30 p.m., police were called to the West 7th Street Walmart about a man, who employees say had previously been banned from the store, trespassing next to a vehicle in the parking lot.
When officers contacted the man, he gave them a fake name, birthday and social security number. They then attempted to arrest him for obstruction and resisting but he fled on foot through the parking lot with officers chasing him. A taser was successfully used as the suspect fell and hit his head on the pavement, rendering him unconscious.
Further investigation found that the man, identified as 36-year-old James Wary of Pittsburg, had entered Walmart before officer’s arrived and stole items. He also had a Jasper County warrant for stealing. No officers were injured during the incident.
