Carthage Police have arrested a man who is suspected to have stolen from the Carthage Streets Department. Police were called in the early morning hours of Monday (6/11) for a burglary that had occurred. They say 26-year-old Kevin J. Burton of Carthage unlawfully entered the building by removing a window A/C unit and then stole several items, including power tools and a utility vehicle within the building.
Burton was taken into custody without incident Tuesday (6/12) after a Street Department employee saw him walking near the property with the items he had stolen. He is currently being held at the Jasper County Jail on a warrant for stealing and has a $3,500 bond. Detectives used video and other evidence to confirm that Burton was the suspect. Most of the stolen items have been recovered and they are also seeking additional burglary charges.
